October Newsletter

Fall is in Full Swing!

Room 122 has been WONDERFUL!!!  The children are
really working hard and doing a great job!  We continue
to work on rules and routines, but I am very happy with
the progress we’ve made so far.  Math and reading
continue to be big parts of our days.   This week we
start our first science unit, all about INSECTS!!!  October
is a busy month!  Please take a moment to check out
 some of the activities below:)

Coming Soon…..
This Month at a Glance!

Oct 9 – No School – Statewide Inservice
Oct 14 – 2 hour late start
              Curriculum Night
Oct 21-23 – No School – Conferences

Oct. 30 – No School – Teacher Planning Day

Curriculum Night

We hope to see you at Curriculum Night!!  Please join us on Wednesday, October 14, from 5:00-7:30.  There are many great reasons to attend, including signing up for parent/teacher conferences and learning about the curriculum that will be addressed this school year.  I’m looking forward to seeing you all there.

Homework

Homework is turned in on Fridays in the homework folder. New Homework is given on Mondays. Please have your child practice the high frequency (rainbow) words nightly.  This will help so much with both reading and writing skills at school! You can use the KIDS A-Z books for the reading log. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with homework.

Book Orders

Once a month, I will add book order forms to the homework folder.  If you would like to order books, please fill out the order form and return it in the homework folder along with a check (make it out to Scholastic) or cash by the end of the week:)

Specials Schedule

Every week, our first graders have PE, music, library and art.  These are special times for our class to enrich our learning at school.  Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes on Wednesday and Thursday on PE days.  Also, please be sure that your child returns their library books no later than Thursday of each week.  These books are a great addition for the reading log.
