March Newsletter




Friendly Reminders

School begins promptly at 8:40am and ends at 3:00pm.

Homework is sent home on Monday. It is to be completed and returned to school by Thursday.

Please remind your student to bring their library books back to school!

First Grade Literacy Pilot
The first grade team is piloting one of the options for a new literacy curriculum for next year. Students are learning about opinion, persuasive and review writing. In reading students are participating in word sorts to increase phonics and spelling awareness. Starting after spring break, we will be piloting a reading workshop model.

Reading At Home
We are working hard to increase our reading fluency, accuracy, and comprehension skills. We need your help! Please have your child read to you for at least 15 minutes every night. If you need books at your child’s level, please let us know.

March Highlights
Academic Focus Areas:
*Addition and Subtraction facts
*Skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
*Measurement: Height, weight, inches
*Persuasive, opinion, review writing
*Identifying an author’s purpose, understanding a story theme
*Phonics and word recognition: long vowels: a (ai,ay), e (ea), o (oa, ow).
